Max Lerner

Max Lerner kam bereits als Kind 1907 mit seinen Eltern aus Weißrussland in die USA. Er studierte u. a. Politikwissenschaft und Rechtswissenschaft an der Yale University, wo er 1923 den Bachelorgrad erwarb. Er wechselte dann an die Washington University und schloss dort sein Studium 1925 mit der Magisterprüfung ab. An der Robert Brookings Graduate School of Economics and Government promovierte er 1927 zum Ph.D. Von 1927 bis 1932 war er leitender Herausgeber der "Encyclopaedia of the Social Sciences"^[2], die später in zahlreichen neuen Ausgaben erschien. Als Journalist arbeitete er für zahlreiche Zeitungen und Magazine. Als Dozent bzw. Professor lehrte er an verschiedenen Universitäten in den USA, insbesondere von 1949 bis 1973 an der Brandeis University.^[3]

Sein Hauptwerk ist das etwas über 1.000 Seiten umfassende Buch "America as a civilization", das 1987 in 30. Ausgabe erschien und auch ins Deutsche übersetzt wurde.
