Rory McTurk

Rory McTurk studierte Literaturwissenschaft, zunächst an der University of Oxford, wo er 1963 seinen ersten akademischen Abschluss erreichte. Anschließend war er bis 1965 Student an der Universität Islands. Dort erwarb er den Magistergrad. Von 1967 bis 1969 unterrichtete er an der Universität Lund und der Universität Kopenhagen. Danach wechselte er an das University College Dublin und arbeitete dort als Hochschullehrer. Von 1978 bis zu seinem Eintritt in den Ruhestand war McTurk an der University of Leeds tätig. 1985 erwarb er an der National University of Ireland seinen Doktorgrad. In Leeds war er zunächst Dozent, 2006 dann Professor für Isländische Sprache und Kultur. 1998/99 wirkte er als Gastprofessor an der Vanderbilt University in Nashville (Tennessee), 2011 an der University of New Mexico. Seit 2005 war er außerdem Gastforscher am University College London.

In seinen Veröffentlichungen beschäftigt sich McTurk vor allem mit der altisländischen Literatur. Außerdem arbeitet er als Übersetzer.
