The village appeared for the first time in writing in 1569. The name is formed of the words berg (mountain) and gård (farm).[2] It is located close to a hill with a view over river Ätran. Falkenbergs Motorbana auto racing circuit is located close to the village, which also hosts a school and a kindergarten. Large parts of the village were built in the 1970s when much housing construction took place.
