Pleuromeris

Members of the genus have small subtrigonal shells with prominent beaks, and steep anterior and posterior slopes that constrict the hinge line laterally. A triangular central tooth is found on the right valve.^[4]

The genus was first described by Timothy Abbott Conrad in 1867.^[5]

Pleuromeris has a cosmopolitan distribution,^[6] found in areas including South America, the Caribbean Sea, Australia and New Zealand.^[7] The earliest known fossils date to the Paleocene, and are found in Belgium and New Zealand.^[2]
