History
Founding and early years
5Boys Apparel was founded in September 2010 by Robin Dennis in Madison, Alabama, after she began embroidering uniforms for her sons' travel sports teams.[3] The company's name references the five Dennis brothers: Eric, Kyle, Jaime, Sam, and Ryan.[2] Robin's husband Gary co-owns the business.[2]
Eric Dennis joined the company in its founding year, while Kyle and Jaime Dennis came aboard in 2017.[2] Gary Dennis joined the operations team full-time in 2024.[3] Brothers Sam and Ryan do not work for the company but inspired its name.[2]
In 2020, the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce nominated 5Boys Apparel for both Service Business of the Year and Woman-Owned Business of the Year at its annual Small Business Awards.[4]
Growth
The company initially operated out of the Dennis family's garage before moving to a 1,500 square feet (140 m2) facility.[2] It subsequently expanded to a 27,000 square feet (2,500 m2) location on Jetplex Circle in Madison.[2] By 2024, the company had further grown to a 35,000 square feet (3,300 m2) warehouse with ten automatic screen printing presses.[3]
Under president Kyle Dennis, 5Boys transitioned from a local retail operation to a primarily e-commerce business model, shipping custom apparel to customers in all 50 U.S. states.[2] The company reported 100 percent year-over-year growth for four consecutive years.[3]
Operations
5Boys Apparel specializes in custom screen-printed and embroidered apparel packages, including t-shirts, hoodies, and promotional items. The company offers free design assistance and shipping on bulk orders.[2] As of 2023, the company operates ten automatic presses running 18 hours daily and employs more than 40 people.[2][3]
Kyle Dennis described the company as "one of the top seven largest direct-to-consumer screen printing companies in America" in 2023.[2]
