History
Creative Software was founded in 1999, by Jonas Bridgwater, Sushena Ranatunga, Sajith Peiris, and Johann Senaratna. The company initially focused on building dedicated software engineering teams for clients in Scandinavia, particularly in Norway and Sweden, before expanding to service clients across Europe, North America and Australia.[2]
In 2017, Swedish AI accounting firm Wint selected Creative Software as its development partner in Sri Lanka to expand its engineering team.[3]
In 2018, Creative Software entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) to establish an IT research and development centre for undergraduates, to provide research and development opportunities for undergraduate students.[4]
In 2020, the company partnered with the University of Moratuwa on a research project in autonomous vehicle technology, focusing on machine learning and artificial intelligence applications. The collaboration aimed to develop a Level 4 autonomous driving system over a five-year period.[5]
In 2022, Creative Software participated in a Microsoft-led initiative alongside Zillione Technologies and Enable Lanka Foundation to provide employment opportunities for persons with disabilities in Sri Lanka.[6]
In 2024, Creative Software marked its 25th year of operations.[1]
Industry involvement
Director Sushena Ranatunga has been quoted in Sri Lankan media on the country's software industry, including the importance of developing software product ownership and intellectual property among the local engineers, rather than solely providing outsourced development resources to foreign companies.[7]
At the 2018 National Business Excellence Awards, organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, Creative Software recieved an award for excellence in business and financial results in the medium sector category in 2018.[8]
