DeeDee Animation Studio is a Vietnamese animation studio based in Hanoi, founded in 2016. The studio produces animated films, television series, commercials, and international co-productions and contributes to the growth of Vietnam’s animation industry..[1]

The studio has contributed animation production to international projects including the Netflix documentary series How to Become a Cult Leader and How to Become a Mob Boss.[2] Other projects include the sci-fi parody series Sunny Side Down.[3], the anime series Okaimono Panda featuring the mascot of Rakuten.[4], the Japanese anime television series Chimimo, the animated feature film A Magnificent Life directed by Sylvain Chomet, and the web series Meet the Fantastic Four and Holiday Heroes.

DeeDee has also developed original animated works inspired by Vietnamese culture, literature, and historical themes. [5]

History

International collaborations

Since the early 2020s, DeeDee Animation Studio has participated in a number of international animation productions in collaboration with studios and media companies in North America, Europe, and Japan.

In 2021, the studio collaborated with the Japanese animation studio Shin-Ei Animation on the television anime series Chimimo. In 2024, DeeDee also contributed to the anime series Okaimono Panda!.

In 2022, the studio worked with the Los Angeles–based Duncan Studio on Disney's Mickey & Friends x CAMP: An Extra Big Adventure![6], featuring characters from the Mickey Mouse franchise. In 2024, the collaboration continued with the music video 내 인생 언제 달라질까 ("When Will My Life Begin")[7] from the campaign Mickey and Friends: Seoul Tour, performed by South Korean singer Lee Su-hyun of AKMU.

The studio has also collaborated with the American animation company 6 Point Harness. In 2022, DeeDee contributed animation work to Hot Wheels Skate Board[8], and in 2025 it participated in the animated comedy series Oh My God, Yes![9]

DeeDee additionally contributed to animation sequences in the Netflix documentary series How to Become a Cult Leader (2023) and How to Become a Mob Boss (2023).

In 2025, DeeDee participated in the production of the animated feature film A Magnificent Life (French: Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol), directed by Sylvain Chomet. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in a special screening and received several international recognitions following its release.[10]

In addition to these projects, DeeDee continued its collaboration with Duncan Studio on two short-form web series released in 2025: Meet the Fantastic Four, produced as part of promotional content for the Fantastic Four franchise, and Holiday Heroes, a seasonal superhero-themed web series.

IP and cultural storytelling

Alongside its commercial production work, DeeDee Animation Studio has developed a number of original animated works and intellectual property projects, many of which draw inspiration from Vietnamese culture, literature, and history.

The studio’s early original work includes the animated short film Awaken (2017), which was screened at several domestic and international animation festivals.

In 2019, DeeDee released two projects expanding its original storytelling efforts. The short film General, Please Mind Your Manner! (Vietnamese: Đại Vương, Xin Hãy Tiết Chế!) presented a comedic interpretation of the historical figure Trần Quốc Tuấn, a military commander of the Trần dynasty.

The same year, the studio produced Broken Being: Prequel (Vietnamese: Tàn Thể: Tiền Truyện)[11], a post-apocalyptic fantasy short film intended as the foundation of a larger fictional universe. The film was selected for several international film festivals and contributed to the studio receiving the Best Animator award at the Golden Kite Awards in 2019.

In 2020, DeeDee collaborated with TNA Entertainment to produce She-Kings, an animated series depicting six female generals who fought alongside the Trưng Sisters in their uprising against the Eastern Han dynasty.

Other projects exploring cultural narratives include Loving Kiều (2020), inspired by themes from the Vietnamese literary classic The Tale of Kiều, and The Hero (Vietnamese: Đại Hiệp, 2021), a satirical animated series set in a fictional martial-arts world.

In 2023, the studio released the animated short Có Thờ Có Thiêng, which explores Vietnamese spiritual traditions and ancestral worship through a comedic narrative. The film was later screened in the Panorama program of the Vietnam Film Festival.

DeeDee continued to develop original works in 2025, including Jelly’s Bean, an educational animated series for children that won first prize in the Short & Series category at the Vietnam Animation IP Contest[12] organized by the Vietnam Animation and Visual Effects Association.

Other projects announced during this period include the animated documentary Hoàng Thị Thế: Fate & Destiny[13], developed in collaboration with Avalook, and the hand-drawn animated short Trở Về (Home Again)[14] received several awards at the Vietnam Film Festival in 2025, including the Silver Lotus Award, Best Director, and Best Animator. The film also received the Silver Kite Award in the same year.

Commercial and commissioned works

In addition to original productions and international collaborations, DeeDee Animation Studio has produced animation for a range of commercial and commissioned media projects.

In 2020, the studio produced the animated music video Let Victory Make History[15], the official theme song video for the Arena of Valor International Championship esports tournament organized by Garena.

DeeDee has also collaborated with international entertainment and gaming companies. In 2022, the studio contributed to the cinematic promotional video for the video game Justice League: Cosmic Chaos.

In 2023, it produced animation for the music video Making Waves, associated with Riot Games' tactical shooter game Valorant.

The studio has also worked with technology brands, including the promotional campaign Huion Will Rock You (2021) for the graphics tablet manufacturer Huion.

In collaboration with international organizations, DeeDee produced several short animated films and educational media pieces for UNICEF in 2021, including Hai Moc Nhi[16], cartoon animation for Earth Day,Super Artist and the animated music video Family Dinner.

The studio also produced public-awareness videos such as Student With Cyber Security and Protecting Kids on the Internet, created as part of initiatives promoting online safety and cybersecurity awareness.

Awards and recognition

DeeDee Animation Studio's productions have received recognition at several domestic and international animation and film festivals.

The studio's short film Awaken (2017) received the Second Prize and Best Screenplay awards at the FY Film Fest in Ho Chi Minh City. The film was also recognized with the Potential Award at Digicon6 Vietnam and screened at Digicon6 Asia in Japan as well as the World Animation Celebration, supported by Sony Pictures Animation.

The animated short Broken Being: Prequel (2019) was selected for multiple international festivals including the Montreal International Animation Film Festival – Animaze, Cambodia International Film Festival, Athens Animfest, Seoul Webfest, and La Guarimba International Film Festival. The film also won the Best 2D Animation award at the Khem Animation Film Festival in the United States.

In Vietnam, the studio received the Best Animator award at the Golden Kite Awards in 2019.

The animated short film Trở Về (Home Again) received several awards at the Vietnam Film Festival in 2025, including the Silver Lotus Award, Best Director, and Best Animator. The film also won the Silver Kite Award the same year.

In 2025, the children's animated series Jelly's Bean won first prize in the Short & Series category at the Vietnam Animation IP Contest organized by the Vietnam Animation and Visual Effects Association.
