EBRAND is an ICANN-accredited domain registrar.[3] In December 2025, the company gained wider recognition when it issued a DMCA takedown notice on behalf of Take-Two Interactive against DOS Zone, a browser-based gaming platform that had been hosting an unauthorised port of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.[4][5]

History

EBRAND was founded in 2007 in Luxembourg as a corporate domain registrar within the NameSpace Group, which also includes domain registrar EuroDNS. Both companies were co-founded by Xavier Buck and Lutz Berneke.[1] The company expanded its offering to include domain security, management, and strategy services from 2008 onwards.

In 2011, EBRAND co-founded the Time2Dot initiative alongside Deloitte Luxembourg and OpenRegistry, providing brands with a solution for registering new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) and DotBrand extensions.[6]

In 2014, EBRAND launched its first anti-counterfeiting tools. The company introduced the ARGOS Online Brand Protection platform in 2018, incorporating anti-counterfeiting, intellectual property protection, and legal and technical support capabilities.[7] In 2020, EBRAND launched X-RAY, its Digital Risk Protection platform, with features including external threat monitoring, executive protection, and AI-assisted detection.[2]

The company has established offices across Europe and internationally, including in the United Kingdom, New York, Paris, Munich, Madrid, and Copenhagen. Its clients include major international brands such as UBS Group.[7]

Take-Two Interactive DMCA action

In December 2025, EBRAND, acting on behalf of Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., the parent company of Rockstar Games, issued a DMCA takedown notice to DOS Zone, an online platform that had been hosting a browser-based port of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The notice cited unauthorised use of copyrighted content, potential circumvention of technological protection measures, and violation of exclusive distribution rights.[8] DOS Zone complied and removed the game.

The action was reported by technology and gaming publications including Tom's Hardware, GamesRadar, NME, XDA Developers, and the Financial Express.[9][10]

Products and services

EBRAND offers three principal software platforms:

  • Corporate Domain Management: provides domain registration, security, blocking, and portfolio strategy services, including support for new gTLD and DotBrand registrations.
  • ARGOS Online Brand Protection: addresses anti-counterfeiting and intellectual property enforcement.[11]
  • X-RAY Digital Risk Protection: monitors external threats and provides executive protection and AI-assisted detection capabilities.[2]

Partnerships and industry activity

EBRAND has collaborated with UNIFAB (Union des Fabricants), a French anti-counterfeiting organisation, on intellectual property enforcement matters.[12] The company has also worked with Punktum DK, the Danish domain registry, on internet security initiatives.[13]

The company has participated in industry events including IP Service World and served as a sponsor of the 2024 general assembly of APRAM (Association des Praticiens du Droit des Marques et des Modèles).[14] Through its French subsidiary, the company is a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact.[15]
