Early Life and Mission

Dunn was born in Dublin and joined the Mill Hill Missionaries in London. He was among the first group of Mill Hill priests to arrive in Borneo in 1881. He spent his early years traveling by boat and on foot through the jungles of Sarawak and Sabah to reach remote tribes.

Leadership

In 1903, he was appointed Prefect Apostolic.[3]Under his leadership:

  • The mission expanded from small coastal stations to the interior.
  • He oversaw the construction of many early mission schools.
  • He survived the transition of the mission through the difficult years of the early 20th century.

He died in office in Kuching on New Year's Eve, 1927, and was succeeded by August Wachter.
