Irkutsk Cossacks[1] are part of the Russian Cossacks, who lived in the Baikal region in the territory of the Irkutsk Governorate.

The Irkutsk Cossacks were founded in 1816. Another source states that the Irkutsk Cossacks, like the Yenisei Cossacks, were formed from Siberian servicemen, among whom according to the 1725 regulations there were over 8,000 Cossacks[1]. The military headquarters was in Irkutsk.

Development of the Baikal region

In 1652, the Irkutsk winter settlement was founded.[2] Cossacks first appeared in the Baikal region in the 17th century during the exploration of Siberia.
