Island Styles is an American film composer and musician. He is best known as the composer for the film The Singers, which was nominated for an Academy Award at the 98th Academy Awards in the Live Action Short Film category.[1] [2] He is also recognized for his career as a guitarist for the rock band Candlebox.[3]

Career
Music career
In 2005, Styles joined singer-songwriter Niki Barr as lead guitarist.[4] With Barr, Styles performed domestically in the U.S., sharing the stage with acts including The Cult, Shinedown, and Chevelle. He also performed for the U.S. military as part of multiple Armed Forces Entertainment tours overseas.[5]
In 2010, Styles joined the post-grunge band Jimmie's Chicken Shack.[6] In 2015, he began working with Scottish singer Terry McDermott.[7] Styles and McDermott subsequently toured the U.S. and Europe with the band Lotus Crush.[8]
Styles began touring with Seattle-based band Candlebox in 2016.[9] He is credited as a songwriter and guitarist on the albums Wolves (2021) and The Long Goodbye (2023), and the live album Disappearing Live (2017).[10] He performed on the band's 2023–2024 farewell tour and is a long-term endorsed artist with PRS Guitars.[11][12]
Film and media composition
In the 2020s, Styles transitioned into media composition. He scored the feature-length documentary I Need You: 53 Years of the Band America (2025), which premiered at the DocLands Film Festival.[13] Styles also served as the composer for the documentary feature Far Behind: The Candlebox Story (2025).[14]
Styles provided the original score and sound design for the short film The Singers (2025), directed by Sam Davis.[2] The film won the Narrative Grand Prize at the 2025 Indy Shorts International Film Festival and was subsequently nominated for an Academy Award at the 98th Academy Awards.[15][16]
Additionally, he collaborated with North Star Digital, composing the original scores for the video game adaptations of Evolution (2019) and Oceans (2022).[17][18]
