Jesse Baez (Chicago, Illinois, January 7th, 1988) is a Guatemalan-American singer, songwriter, and producer. Born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Guatemala City, he emerged in the mid-2010s within the Spanish-language R&B scene, where he has been recognized by various media outlets for his role in the genre’s development.[1][2]

He began his solo career in 2016 after previously being a member of the Guatemalan band Easy Easy.[3] Since then, he has released several EPs and studio albums, performed at international festivals including Lollapalooza y Sónar, and collaborated with artists from across Latin America and Spain.

Early Life

Jesse Baez was born on 7 January 1988 in Chicago, Illinois. During his childhood, he relocated to Guatemala, where he was raised and began developing his interest in music.[2] Before launching his solo career, he was part of the Guatemalan band Easy Easy, gaining early recognition within the local alternative scene.[3]

Career

Solo beginnings (2016–2017)

In 2016, Baez launched his solo career with the single "Decile," a reinterpretation of The Weeknd’s song “Tell Your Friends”. The same year, he released his debut EP ''B.A.E.Z.'', which marked the formal start of his solo project and positioned him within the emerging Spanish-language R&B scene.[4]

In 2017, he released the single "Apaga la luz," one of his earliest widely circulated original songs in the Latinamerican music scene.

Consolidation and international exposure (2018–2021)

In 2018, Baez released the EP ''Turbo'' and collaborated with Spanish artist C. Tangana on the single "No Eres Tú," marking one of his first major international collaborations. That same year, he performed at Lollapalooza Argentina and Lollapalooza Chicago.

In 2019, he appeared at Sónar Barcelona and released the single "Malibú." In 2020, he followed with the EP ''Nitro,'' continuing his exploration of contemporary R&B and alternative pop in Spanish. In 2021, he released "Limo," which served as a lead single for his debut studio album.

Studio albums (2022–2024)

In April 2022, Baez released his first studio album, ''Amor en Español" [5][6]which received coverage from specialized music publications.

In November 2024, he released his second studio album, HENRY[7], on which he also took on a production role. The album included singles such as "Hablas" and "Persona Favorita," the latter in collaboration with Latin Mafia.[8]

Independent period (2025–present)

In 2025, Baez began a new independent phase of his career following the conclusion of his contract with Universal Music Mexico. That year, he released the single "Desvelado," marking the beginning of a new creative chapter.[9] In August 2025, he released ''HENRY: Deuces,'' a deluxe edition of his second studio album.
