The university offers maîtrise (one-year master's), Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies (two-year master's), and doctorate degrees.[2][verification needed]
History
The university was conceived of in 1990 by Sheikh Hussein Hassan, who formed a council to discuss the feasibility of a "college of Arabic studies" in Chad.[1] In meetings during April 1991 they formed a board of trustees, who in turn approved the university's founding document.[1] The university was recognized by the government of Chad via resolution No. 299 on 21 March 1992.[1][3] Presidential Decree No. (17/R/V/1995), issued on 30 January 1995, recognized the university as a non-profit civil institution and appointed Hussein Hassan as its president.[1][3]
The first class graduated from the university in 1995. The first Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies was granted in 1998, the first master’s degrees and "doctorates of the third degree" in 2002, and the first "state-level doctorate" in 2005.[1][clarification needed]
It has been a member of the League of Islamic Universities since 1999.[1]
