Mateo Alejandro Vogel (born 5 March 1996)[1] is a Canadian professional mixed martial artist[2] who currently competes in Unified MMA. He is a former Battlefield Fight League (BFL) and Unified MMA Featherweight champion.[3][4]

In 2018, Vogel began competing professionally in mixed martial arts (MMA), starting his career in the Bantamweight division.[5]
Background
Vogel was born and raised mostly in Ottawa, Ontario, on March 5, 1996. Vogel is a Christian. Vogel was given the nickname "Carrapato" which is the Portuguese word for tick by his Brazilian teammates. When he was given the nickname he didn't know the meaning and when he found out he said: "I honestly didn't like it."[6][7]

Early career
2018
Mateo Vogel made his professional MMA debut on March 16, 2018 against Canadian bantamweight, James Clark on TKO 42 a card headlined by fellow Canadian MMA star, T.J. Laramie vs. João Luis Nogueira. Vogel would win the bout with an armbar submission at 4:48 in Round 1, earning a 1-0 record.[8]
Vogel improved his record to 2-0 with a win over Stephane Lavoie on TKO 43: Marc-André Barriault vs. Brendan Kornberger. "Carrapoto" won via Round 2 rear naked choke submission at 2:13.[9]
Vogel earned another win with a Round 1 submission over American bantamweight, Johnny Baldridge on TKO 45: Charles Jourdain vs. Alex Morgan. The fight ended at 1:16 due to an arm triangle choke. Making Vogel's record 3-0.[10]
2019
Vogel lost his next fight against Xavier Alaoui on TKO 48: Roggers Souza vs. Ciryl Gane via disqualification due to an illegal upkick at 3:48 of Round 1, falling to a 3-1 record.[11]
2020
Mateo Vogel rebounded with a unanimous decision win over future UFC-vet, and then undefeated Canadian prospect, Serhey Sidey at BTC 9. Bringing his record to 4-1 as a pro.[12]
Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC)
2021
In his next fight, Mateo Vogel fought American bantamweight Garrett Armfield. Vogel would win the fight by submission due to a rear naked choke at 2:28 of Round 2 improving his record to 5-1.[13]
Vogel would lose his second fight in CFFC by unanimous decision against American martial artist, and future UFC-vet, Da'Mon Blackshear. Making his record 5-2.[14]
Battlefield Fight League (BFL)
2022
At BFL 72: Battle Mania headlined by Dejan Kajić and Saeid Mirzaei, Vogel improved his record to 6-2 with a majority decision win over Nic Ouellet, winning the BFL featherweight belt.[15]
Vogel was set to defend his belt at BFL 72: Battle Mania which was headlined with Dejan Kajić vs. JC Llamas. Vogel would win the fight via TKO by ground and pound at 0:51 of the 3rd round earning Vogel his first career knockout, and first BFL title defense. This bout brought Vogel's record to 7-2.[16]
2023
Vogel defended his BFL featherweight belt a 2nd time against Drew Brokenshire. Winning the bout by submission due to a rear naked choke at 4:27 of the 3rd round. Earning his shot on Dana White's Contender Series, and improving his record to 8-2.[17]
Dana White's Contender Series (DWCS)
On August 29th, 2023, Mateo Vogel was booked to fight on Dana White's Contender Series 2023: Week 4 against 6-1 Las Vegas prospect, Timmy Cuamba. Both fighters evenly made weight at 144.5 lbs and made the walk to the octagon. The fight was competitive with Vogel out striking Cuamba 67 to 43 in significant strikes and 82 to 44 in total strikes. Vogel also out grappled Cuamba landing 1 of 6 takedowns and having 4:04 minutes of control time.[18] Vogel lost a 29-28 unanimous decision on all 3 judges' who scored the bout in favour of the American.[19][20]
Unified MMA (UMMA)
2024
After losing a close fight on the Contender Series, Vogel made his return to the Canadian regional scene. Vogel was booked to headline Unified MMA 55 against Canadian featherweight John Nguyen for the Unified MMA featherweight belt. Vogel would win the fight by unanimous decision, improving his record to 9-3 and winning the featherweight strap.[4]
Vogel was then booked to fight Alex Morgan, a Canadian featherweight with a 14-6 record, but was forced to pull out due to an injury and was later stripped of the Unified title due to inactivity because of the injury.[21]
2026
In March 2026, it was announced that Mateo Vogel was booked to fight 10 fight UFC-veteran, Canadian MMA legend, and current Unified MMA featherweight champ, "Mean" Hakeem Dawodu at Unified MMA 69: Dawodu vs. Vogel on May 8th, 2026 at Rebel Night Club in Toronto, Ontario.[22][23]
