Early life, education, and military service
Mike LeBlanc was born in Lyndhurst, Ohio, where he also grew up. His mother worked as a teacher and his father worked as a painter. After high school, he completed his undergraduate degree at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland.[2]
LeBlanc served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. During his 13 years of service, he completed three tours in the Middle East, including two combat tours to Afghanistan.[3] His military experience has been cited in discussions of his transition into leadership roles in technology and security-focused companies. Following his military service, LeBlanc earned a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.[4]
Career
Cobalt Robotics
LeBlanc co-founded Cobalt Robotics, a company focused on robotic systems for commercial security and front-desk operations. He served as President and Chief Operating Officer during the company's early operations.[1] The company raised more than $16 million in funding to expand deployment of its security robots across office buildings and commercial campuses.[5]
Organizations subsequently used Cobalt's robots to patrol office environments and assist human security teams.[6][7] Cobalt Robotics and LeBlanc's leadership at the company have been the subject of two Harvard Business School case studies analyzing operational decisions and organizational development.[8][9] LeBlanc sold Cobalt Robotics in 2024 for an undisclosed amount.[10]
Foundation
LeBlanc went on to become a co-founder and executive at Foundation, a robotics company developing humanoid robotic systems.[11] The company was launched in 2024 alongside co-founders Sankaet Pathak and Arjun Sethi.[10]
During its early operations, Foundation sought seed funding to support development of humanoid robots for industrial and defense applications.[12][13] In 2024, CNBC reported that Foundation faced scrutiny over claims in early fundraising materials regarding relationships with potential partners.[12]
In a March 2026 article by Time, LeBlanc described Foundation’s efforts to militarize humanoid robots and pursue defense applications.[14] He voiced his support for the use of humanoid robots in combat and was quoted describing it as a “moral imperative” intended to reduce human casualties in warfare.[14][15] Foundation currently has contracts with the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force.[14][16]
