Neha Ravindra Pardeshi (born 2 September 1993) is an Indian international rugby player from Pune, Maharashtra, India. She has represented India in both rugby union and rugby sevens, , and captained the India women's national rugby sevens team, leading them to a silver medal at the 2017 Asia Rugby Women's Sevens Trophy in Laos. Early life
Pardeshi was born in Pune, Maharashtra. and started sports with fencing and handball. At 15, she was picked in the national side for the 2009 Asia Rugby sevens in Thailand. In her 10th grade, she was approached by Rugby coach Surhud Khare, who came to her school to promote the sport.[6] She studied Computer Science at Fergusson College and obtained an MBA from Symbiosis in 2016.
Professional career
Pardeshi was part of the first Indian team that travelled to Pattaya, Thailand, for the 2009 Asia Rugby Women's Sevens Championship,[8] where she was the youngest member at age 15. She was part of the team that won a silver medal at the 2015 National Games.
After the birth of her twin children, Pardeshi returned to competitive rugby and, in 2022, represented Delhi at the National Games.
International career
Pardeshi made her international debut for the India women’s rugby sevens team at the age of fifteen during the 2009 Asia Rugby Sevens tournament in Thailand.
Pardeshi led India, as captain, to a silver medal at the 2017 Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Trophy in Laos, overseeing five victories before the team lost the final to South Korea.
Recognition
Pardeshi was featured in Varsha Adusumilli's 2018 book "Wonder Girls: Success Stories of Women Achievers."[2]
Pardeshi has been involved in rugby development in Pune, including coaching at the Hills and Dales Society and working with local schools to introduce the sport, in addition to her national-level commitments.[3]
Personal life
Pardeshi is married to Gautam Dagar, a former captain of the Indian national men's rugby team,[4] and together they have twin children.[5][6]
