Oliver “Ollie” Thorner (born 16 March 2001) is a British Track and Field athlete who competes in the decathlon and heptathlon.[1] He is the British Under-20 indoor heptathlon record holder,[2][3][4] a Pac-12 Conference champion,[5][6] and has represented Great Britain at the European Athletics U18 Championships[7][8] and European athletics U23 Championships.[9][10][11] He is the twin brother[12] of steeplechase runner Elise Thorner, the 2025 UK Athletics champion.[13]

Early life
Thorner grew up in Bridgwater, Somerset, and attended Millfield School. He was highlighted by the Wells City Harriers alongside his sister Elise for strong national-level results.[14][15]
He began his collegiate career at the University of Washington, competing for the Washington Huskies[16][17] where he earned the top spot in decathlon[18] before transferring in 2023 to the University of Florida, where he joined the Florida Gators Track & Field program.[19][20] In 2024, Thorner finished his collegiate eligibility at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), as a UCLA Bruins athlete,[21] and was named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.[22]
Career
In June 2018, Thorner won the Swiss Athletics National Decathlon Championships in Tenero.[23][24] Later that year, both Oliver and Elise Thorner were selected to represent Great Britain internationally at the European Athletics U18 Championships in Gyor, Hungary.[7][8][25][26][24]
In March 2020, Thorner broke the British indoor U20 heptathlon record, scoring 5445 points at the MPSF Championships in Seattle.[2][3][4]
In May 2021 at his first Pac-12 Championships in Los Angeles, he placed 2nd, scoring 7388.[27][17]
In May 2023, he won the Pac-12 decathlon title, scoring a personal best of 7761 points in Walnut, California.[5][6] Later that year, he participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and then represented Great Britain at the European athletics U23 Championships in Espoo, Finland.[6][10][11]
In February 2024, he set another personal best in the indoor heptathlon, scoring 5751 points at the SEC Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.[28][29][30]
