Draft:Radio Cartolina

Italian Radio program aired in New Zealand. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Radio Cartolina was a forthnightly interview-based radio programme showcasing Italian culture and life in English. It aired in Christchurch, New Zealand, from 2 February 1999, to 29 November 2017, on Community Radio Plains FM 96.9 (now Plains Media).[1][2] Radio Cartolina was a contact point for members of the Italian community and their organisations in New Zealand, as well as the Italian Embassy and the Italian Program of Research in Antarctica. It also organised events in Christchurch featuring Italian and local artists, open to the wider Christchurch population. The programme was produced under the patronage of the Christchurch Dante Alighieri Society[3] and received sponsorship from the Italian Embassy to New Zealand[4] and the Christchurch City Council.[5] Additional support came from local businesses, donations, and fundraising.[citation needed] The program's title, Cartolina (Italian for "postcard"), reflected the casual, friendly format used by producer Wilma Giordano Laryn. The radio programme was co-hosted with Denis Walker from 2009 to 2015.
