History

Reflection AI was founded in 2024 by Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, both former researchers at DeepMind.[2][3] Antonoglou had previously worked on AlphaGo, the DeepMind program that defeated a professional Go champion in 2016.[3]

The company focuses on using machine learning to automate parts of the software engineering process, including writing and maintaining code.[1][4]

Funding

In 2025 Reflection AI raised about $130 million in early funding from venture capital firms including Sequoia Capital, CRV, and Lightspeed Venture Partners.[5]

Later in 2025 the company announced a $2 billion funding round led by Nvidia that valued the startup at approximately $8 billion.[1][6] Other investors included former Google chief executive Eric Schmidt and venture capital firms such as Sequoia and Lightspeed.[1][7]

In 2026, media reports indicated that Reflection AI’s valuation had risen to more than $20 billion following a new $2 billion investment round.[8][9]

Technology

Reflection AI develops AI systems intended to function as autonomous coding agents that can understand software projects and assist engineers in writing or modifying code.[3][4] The company's research focuses on combining machine learning, reinforcement learning, and large language models to automate software development tasks.[3]

One system developed by the company, called Asimov, was designed to analyze not only source code but also documentation and internal communications to better understand how software systems are built and maintained.[3]
