Catherine (Sassy) Molyneux is a female English interdisciplinary researcher, with a background in Human Geography, Behavioural Research and Organisational Studies[1][2]. She worked for KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) in Kenya from 1994 to 2020[3]. She then moved back to UK in 2020 but still has affiliation with the Health Systems and Research Ethics Department in KWTRP. She is a professor of Global health, and her works have focused on health policy and systems. Her works have been in biomedical science mainly[4]. She has made strategic contributions in the social science field while working with Nuffield Department of Medicine and in KWTRP. She is a member of the following International Advisory Groups; Health Systems Global, WHO/TDR and SARETI[1][4].
Prof. Sassy Molyneux has worked extensively in low- and middle-income countries, apart from her specialty in global health, she also focuses on research ethics[5].
Early Life
She had her Phd at South Bank University, London, from February 1996 to February 1999.Her field of study was Behavioural studies (Household treatment seeking for malaria)[6]. She pursued her Masters at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and had her Bachelor of Arts in Geography at the University of Newcastle from 1991 to 1994 [7][8].
Career
She is employed by Oxford University [3][9], her position is a Senior Social Scientist[6]. She is an associate Professor[10]. Sassy chairs the Health Systems and Research Ethics department in Kilifi, and plays a senior role in several international research consortia, including the Wellcome Trust funded Global Health Bioethics network, and two DFID funded health systems network[10][11].
Research and Contributions
She has 286 publications to her credit [6]and her recent ones include; "Framework and practical approach to identify and address ethical issues arising in interventional health systems research[1], "Advancing health policy and systems research and analysis: new frontiers, renewed relevance" and "(Un)intended consequences: a social sciences stocktake of a decade of Global Action Plan-inspired antimicrobial governance" [1].
Awards and Recognitions
Professor Sassy Molyneux, has been honoured with a prestigious five-year Global Health Research Professorship from the NIHAR, an award given to only five top Scientists each year. The award will fund her research aimed at helping frontline workers manage moral distress, ensuring their well-being as they carry out critical health services[12].
