The series was first announced during the celebration of Minecraft's 15th anniversary, in which a short teaser trailer was uploaded to YouTube on 30 May 2024.[4] Computer animation studio WildBrain was reported to be producing the series, with Netflix stating that the series "will feature an original story with new characters, showing the world of Minecraft in a new light."[3][5][6]
Netflix presented a first look at the series as part of their "Animated Series Studio Focus" at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on 12 June 2025.[1][2] Dominique Basay stated that they were "deep in collaboration with [their] friends at Mojang Studios," adding "they want to make something authentic and familiar to Minecraft, but also create a universe that is a new experience for fans".[7]
