Yves Rothman's private studio Saturn Sound serves as the creative hub and recording space for much of the music he produces. Established in the historic Melrose Hill neighborhood of Los Angeles in 2014, Saturn Sound moved into the bungalow at Sunset Sound Recorders in Hollywood California in 2022.[33]
Career and Recognition
In 2019 Yves Rothman collaborated with Dan Nigro (Olivia Rodrigo & Chappel Roan) to produce Freya Ridings self titled debut album a Gold-certified record in the UK, featuring the Platinum-selling hit single "Lost Without You". Yves Rothman would go on to find more acclaim producing the debut and sophomore albums for Sabrina Teitelbaum (Blondshell), which garnered widespread praise with the New York Times declaring Blondshell an "Alt-Rock Supernova". In 2022 Yves was a featured music producer on Spotify's billboard in Times Square. [34] In 2023 Yves Rothman began work producing Clara La San's debut album 'Made Mistakes'.[35] The single ‘Another Night’ achieved notable recognition, including a reported 2x gold milestone, and 1x gold for ’Solo’. [36] Rothman has also co-produced projects with producers Sophie[37] and Jack Antonoff.[38] In 2023 Yves Rothman produced two albums that ranked 'Top 100 ablums of the year' by Rolling Stone Magazine- Yves Tumor, ‘Praise a Lord Who Chews But Which Does Not Consume’ came in at number 87, and Blondshell 'Blondshell was number 11.[39]
Growing up Rothman played drums and bass guitar, and performed on televised programming at the age of ten with his childhood band in St. Louis, Missouri.[40] Rothman began his professional career under the stage name Eve Berlin in 2001 as a songwriter and bassist in the critically acclaimed rock band Living Things signed to DreamWorks Records.[41] Living Things released several studio albums and recorded songs engineered by Steve Albini[42] and produced by Max Martin.[43] In 2005 Living Things performed at MTV Music Awards in Brazil.[44] Their single 'Bom Bom Bom' reached #21 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in 2006.[45] Living Things' success earned them a spot in the 2006 Coachella music festival lineup,[46] and caught the attention of the fashion world- with Yves Rothman (Eve Berlin) becoming the face of a Just Cavalli campaign with Kate Moss.[47]
Yves Tumor (2019-present)
Yves Rothman became the musical director of Yves Tumor beginning in 2019.[48] Under Rothman's musical direction the live show received widespread acclaim. A review from The Guardian said the "audience are seduced nonetheless with this display of dream pop and punk chaos. Gospel for a New Century is anchored with an almost hip-hop beat, but for the most part these songs sound at risk of splitting apart: a gorgeous, dangerous sound. The sublime madness is heightened by Tumor’s guitarist who almost steals the show",[49] and The Face Magazine described the live show as "one the best things that happened at Glastonbury".[50] Rothman is also a touring member of the band playing keyboards, synths and rhythm guitar.[51] Yves Tumor and its band performed at the Coachella music festival in 2019 [52] and 2023.[53] Rothman co-starred in the music video 'Heaven Surrounds Us Like a Hood' [54] directed by Cody Critcheloe, which was co-produced by Rothman alongside Noah Goldstein.[55]
Kro Records
Yves Rothman co-founded the independent record label Kro Records alongside his brother Lawrence Rothman and fellow producer Justin Raisen (Charli XCX & Sky Ferreira).[3] Kro Records has released over two dozen Studio Albums and EP's to date,[56] including unreleased music by River Phoenix.[57] Kro Records past releases also include music from Michael Stipe,[57] Stella Rose Gahan,[58] October and the Eyes, [59] Kills Birds, [60] Izzy Spears,[61] Avalon,[62][63] Marissa Nadler,[64] Buzzy Lee [65] and Harmony from Girlpool.[66]
In 2020 Kro Records released the official soundtrack for the Floria Sigismondi (The Runaways, Handmaid’s Tale) directed film The Turning (DreamWorks Pictures), starring Finn Wolfhard, Mackenzie Davis and Brooklynn Prince.[67] Produced together by Yves Rothman and Lawrence Rothman, the soundtrack features original songs by Courtney Love, Mitski, Soccer Mommy, Empress Of,[68] Vagabon, Warpaint, Cherry Glazerr, Kali Uchis, Alice Glass, girl in red, MUNA, The Aubreys (Finn Wolfhard’s band) Alison Mosshart of The Kills and Kim Gordon.[67] The soundtrack was distributed in partnership with Sony Music Masterworks.[67]
