Some taxonomists consider this bird to be a subspecies of the African black swift (Apus barbatus).[2]
It is found in Angola, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and Nigeria.
The specific epithet is for Constance Sladen, who provided financial support for its discovery.[3]
