Early life

Nigro began photographing in high school, studying black-and-white film photography and traditional darkroom techniques.[1] Her first camera was an Olympus OM-10.[2] Early visits to New York City exposed her to the city’s music and cultural scenes.

Career

Nigro initially focused on live music photography before expanding into fashion and fine art.[1] Her photography explores themes of identity and interpersonal connection, often in editorial and portrait settings.[3][4]

Her early work included performances at New York City venues such as Irving Plaza, the Beacon Theatre, and Wetlands Preserve.[5][6] In the mid-1990s, she photographed bands including The Allman Brothers Band, Widespread Panic, and Gov’t Mule, with her work published in Relix Magazine and used for album covers.[7]

In 2015, Nigro founded Moxxii, a firm that provides digital commerce and strategy services.[8][9] She also established Moxxii Photo, which focuses on photography and art direction.[2] She has spoken at industry conferences on retail and e-commerce.[10][11][12][13][14]

Her photographic work includes Blonde Ambition, a fine art series examining social perceptions of women’s hair,[15][16] and Paradise Lost, documenting environmental damage and community recovery in Fort Myers, Florida, following Hurricane Ian in 2022.[3][17]

Nigro has participated in group exhibitions featuring women photographers, including the WeCreate with Printique exhibition in New York City in 2024.[18] She photographed musician Duane Betts behind the scenes for his Downtown Runaround music video, which was featured in Billboard,[19][20][21][22][23] and activist Mariah Parker for Spin magazine.[24]

Other projects include Power Play, focused on women in corporate leadership; a photographic study of Walden 7, a residential complex in Barcelona designed by Ricardo Bofill; and Colorblind, a portrait series documenting an interracial couple in New York City.[25]

Her photography has appeared in Rolling Stone,[3] Harper’s Bazaar,[15] SPIN,[24] Glamour, and Billboard.[19][4]

Recognition

In 2025, Nigro received a Graphis Gold Award for a portrait of musician Dickey Betts, a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band.[3][25] The award included other photographers such as Nick Knight, Albert Watson, and Mark Seliger.[4]
