History
The earliest form of settlement near the village dates to the Imiri Hill (Georgian: იმირის გორა; Azerbaijani: İmir təpəsi) from the 6th millenium BC, a 5 m high hillfort 90 m in diameter, which was excavated in 1971.[2] Tombs on the hill date back to Early Iron and as far back as the Early Bronze ages, likely belonging to the Kura-Araxes culture.[5][6] The Georgian authorities have protected the site since 2016.[7] As of 2026, a museum dedicated to the site is being built.[8]
In 2011, SOCAR, in cooperation with the government of Mikheil Saakashvili, expanded its gas networks into Imiri.[9]
