Larry Grafstein

Larry Grafstein (born Laurence Stephen Grafstein[1]) is an American investment banker and advisor on mergers and acquisitions. Grafstein has served as the deputy chairman of RBC Capital Markets since 2018.[2][3][4][5]

Early life and education
Larry Grafstein is the son of Jerry Grafstein, a former Canadian senator and lawyer, and Carole Grafstein, a member of the Order of Canada.[3][6] He matriculated from Upper Canada College and graduated from Harvard University with Bachelor of Arts in 1982 where he was Executive Editor of The Harvard Crimson.[7][8] He received his Masters in Philosophy from University of Oxford at Balliol, where he was a Rhodes Scholar and president of the Oxford Union.[9][10] He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1988.[11][3]
Career
Grafstein began his Wall Street career at Wasserstein Perella & Co. in 1990.[12] In 2001, he became the managing director and co-head of technology, media and telecommunications at the investment bank, Lazard Ltd.[13][14][15] In March 2009, Grafstein helped lead the group that bought The New Republic magazine, together with its longtime editor Martin Peretz, from CanWest Communications.[16][17] He also chaired the Advisory Board of The New Republic until the sale of the publication to Facebook co-founder, Chris Hughes in 2012.[18][19][20][21][22]
In 2009, Grafstein joined Rothschild & Co. in New York as a managing director and co-head of mergers and acquisitions (M&A).[23][24][25] In September 2012, he joined UBS Group AG as co-head of M&A in the Americas.[26][27][28][29][30][31] Since September 2018, Grafstein has served as the managing director and deputy chairman of RBC Capital Markets.[32][33]
Grafstein is also the chairman of the board of trustees at Horace Mann School,[7] a member of the executive committee of the Wall Street division of UJA-Federation of New York[34] and a member of the board of trustees of the U.S. Foundation of Upper Canada College.[35]
