Naturns

Naturns (German pronunciation: [naˈtʊrns]; Italian: Naturno [naˈturno]) is a comune (municipality) and a village in the province of South Tyrol in northern Italy, located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest of the city of Bolzano.

Geography

As of 31 December 2015, it had a population of 5,739 and an area of 67.0 square kilometres (25.9 mi²).^[3]

Naturns borders the following municipalities: Kastelbell-Tschars, Algund, Lana, Partschins, Plaus, St. Pankraz, Schnals, and Ulten.

The municipality contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Staben (Stava) and Tabland (Tablà).

History

Coat-of-arms

The shield azure and an equilateral triangle of or. It is taken from that of the old dynasty of the Lords of Nals who lived in the village until 1380. The coat of arms was granted in 1966.^[4]

According to the 2024 census, 95.78% of the population speak German, 4.06% Italian and 0.17% Ladin as first language.^[5]
