Scenes from Awajima (Japanese: 淡島百景, Hepburn: Awajima Hyakkei; lit.'One Hundred Views of Awajima') is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Takako Shimura. The series was serialized on Ohta Publishing's PocoPoco website from June 2011 to 2016, and it moved to the Ohta Web Comic website, where it was serialized from July 2016 to March 2024. It was compiled into five tankōbon volumes from April 2015 to May 2024. An anime television series adaptation produced by Madhouse is set to premiere in April 2026.

Plot

A coming of age story following the stories of girls at the acclaimed Awajima Opera School in Japan, who hope to make their stage debuts. Their school experiences are filled with a mix of admiration, competition, growing friendship, and jealousy of each other's skills.

Written and illustrated by Takako Shimura, Scenes from Awajima was originally serialized on Ohta Publishing's PocoPoco website from June 7, 2011,[6] to 2016. It later moved to the Ohta Web Comic website where it continued from July 29, 2016,[7] to March 15, 2024.[8] Its chapters were collected into five tankōbon volumes from April 15, 2015, to May 13, 2024.[9][10]

During their panel at Anime Expo 2025, Yen Press announced that they had licensed the series for English publication.[11]

Anime

An anime adaptation was announced on May 9, 2024.[1] It was later confirmed to be a television series produced by Madhouse and directed by Morio Asaka, with series composition by Yasuhiro Nakanishi, character designs by Kunihiko Hamada, and music by Takahiro Obata.[17] It is set to premiere on April 10, 2026 on Fuji TV and other networks.[2] The opening theme song is "Blue Hour" performed by Hana Hope [ja],[18] and the ending theme song is "Hikari" (Light) performed by Mika Nakashima.[5]

Reception

The series was ranked 17th in the 2016 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook of the best manga for female readers.[19]
