Sheehy played for Dundalk before transferring to Preston North End in August 1972.[3]
In October 1974 he signed for Bohemians[4] and scored the goal that won the 1974–75 League title for Bohemians.
He signed for League newcomers Thurles Town in September 1977.[5]
He replaced Jimmy McGeough as Thurles Town manager in January 1978,[6] but resigned in March.[7]
Sheehy was capped by the Republic of Ireland twice at U23 level, four times at youth level and three times as an amateur.
Sheehy died on 28 July 2025, at the age of 73.[8]
