Sechenovsky District

Sechenovsky District (Russian: Се́ченовский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion), one of the forty in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia.[1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Sechenovsky Municipal District.[3] It is located in the southeast of the oblast. The area of the district is 991 square kilometers (383 sq mi).[1] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Sechenovo.[1] Population: 15,446 (2010 Census);[2] 17,741 (2002 census);[5] 19,338 (1989 Soviet census).[6] The population of Sechenovo accounts for 34.1% of the district's total population.[2]

History

The district was established in 1929 and renamed in 1944[1] after physiologist Ivan Sechenov.
