History

Sparklo was founded in December 2022 by Maxim Kaplevich.[2][3] Its machines, called "Sparklomats," are manufactured in the Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) in the company's owned production facility.[3][4] By late 2023, Sparklo had deployed over 100 machines.[5]

In 2024, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi reported that its bottle-return program with Sparklo had collected over 23 million items, avoiding over 3.5 million kg of CO₂ emissions.[6]

In 2025, Sparklo formed a joint initiative with Coca-Cola Middle East and Majid Al Futtaim to collect 1.8 ml bottles per year.[7]

Since its launch, Sparklo has collected over 95 million recyclables and developed one of the region's largest incentive-based recycling communities.[3] Sparklo has its presence in 10 countries, including Oman,[8] Qatar,[9] Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, India, Kazakhstan.[3][10] As of January 2025, Sparklo operates more than RVMs globally.[3][11]

Operations

Sparklo manufactures and operates AI-powered reverse-vending machines.[6] The machines use cameras and machine learning to identify and sort plastic bottles and aluminum cans without requiring barcodes or labels.[3]

Users interact with machines via a mobile application, Sparklo Rewards Club. After depositing a bottle, the user is invited to join the app and receive points into the personal account.[6] These points can be redeemed for discounts and other services.[3]

As of 2025, Sparklo has deployed machines in India, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, the UAE, Oman, Qatar, and has a user base of more than 350,000.[3][2] In the UAE, Sparklo collects 250,000 bottles and cans per day.[12][6]
