Misquote. Please change “the strongest, most explicit and most widespread protest movement against any policy since the beginning of the Third Reich” to “the strongest, most explicit and most widespread protest movement against any Nazi policy since the beginning of the Third Reich.” (1 word “Nazi”)

Question: The semicolon isn't gramatically correct there, and a comma or full colon would probably be weird, but here's an idea: how about "who participated in the mass murder of Jewish people under Operation Reinhard"? If that works for you I can swap that out. tony 23:27, 24 August 2025 (UTC)

Hello all

I came across this article while checking citations on another article. The lead currently says "The killings took place from September 1939 until the end of World War II in Europe in 1945. Between 275,000 and 300,000 people were killed in psychiatric hospitals in Germany, Austria, occupied Poland, and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (now the Czech Republic)."

The problem is that as far as I can see, none of the three cited works for the figure of 275,000 to 300,000 killed under Aktion T4 (ie Longerich, Browning and Proctor) give this figure on the cited pages. The following sentence "The number of victims was originally recorded as 70,273 but this number has been increased by the discovery of victims listed in the archives of the former East Germany" cites a linked page on the Bundesarchive website. This page does give a figure of nearly 300,000, but states that the number was 100,000 under the T4 programme (ie 1939 to 1941). My understanding is that the T4 programme was closed down in 1941.

Unless I have missed something, Longerich, Browning and Proctor should not be given as citations for the estimate of 275,000 to 300,000 deaths. Also, as the T4 programme officially ended in 1941 and the article is about the period 1939 to 1945, I suggest a more accurate title would be something like: "Nazi euthanasia programme". Wikipedia article titles are supposed to use the title most commonly used in English. In all the general books and articles I have read, I have never seen the programme referred to as "Aktion T4". It is usually referred to as "the euthanasia programme" and the T4 program specifically is usually referred to as "the T4 programme". "Euthanasia in the Third Reich" is also a possible title and is the one used in the linked Bundesarchiv page.

Although there are articles which use the name "Aktion T4", those appearing at Scholar seem to be in German most of the time. We are supposed to use the common English name if there is one. I also agree with your other comments. I would support "Nazi euthanasia programme" or "Nazi euthanasia program". Zero^talk 09:56, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
