Talk:Afro-Chileans

There is not a consensus regarding what exactly constitutes an Afro-Chilean and what doesn't, there is a blurred line between being considered simply a naturalized immigrant and an Afro-Chilean.

A user has pointed out that naturalized people should not be included in the list because "it's not fair" to Afro-Chileans born in Chile and that the only reason why they have citizenship in the first place is "because they are good football players".

My point of view is that these people should definitely be included since they hold Chilean citizenship, are of African descent (or originally from Africa in some cases), have lived in Chile for several years or are descendants of Chileans and feel a strong connection towards Chile.

Hello, AtomsRavelAz. I'm not quite sure of where the problem is. It has long been understood on Project Wiki ethnic groups that 'notable' includes people who are naturalised, so long as it doesn't cause conflicts between editors, and provided there are reliable sources that the person (absolutely vital for a WP:BLP in particular) truly feels an genuine allegiance to their adopted country, and does not see it as a passport to being able to play football for another nation-state for the money, or to cash in on their fame in the fashion world, Hollywood, etc. There are celebrities/notables who appear as being part of more than one national-state, dependent on who they are being interviews by. Personally, I don't put much stock in the notables list as they are exceptions to the rule, and do no represent the average Afro-Chileans and how they live. I think the brunt of the body of an article should discuss their historical place, but there is no information on the contemporary lifestyle of the majority of Afro-Chilean. The last historical information is from almost one hundred years ago. It seems they're still an alienated (by now) 10 or so thousand, and Chile remains one of the few countries left in the Hispanic American regions who do not count them in their census. It doesn't appear that they are a minority group who have many opportunities in education or jobs.^[1][2] I might have a pot shot at updating the information myself, but I don't speak Spanish, although I have enough of a gist of it to work through references/citations with a little help from Google translate.
