Talk:Age verification system

Only CC?

Doesn't many out there use other data? This article looks like it needs much work, seems to only cover a small fraction of all of the stuff covered by the concept... --TiagoTiago (talk) 03:52, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

List of services?

There seem to be a lot of these now, with varying levels of privacy protections. Can someone suggest how to start a list? Maybe start with Yoti and AgeGo? Including some information on privacy and whether they need a smartphone. 213.219.168.157 (talk) 14:01, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

I don't know why this exists. Seems like an ad. 1q9w (talk) 22:55, 12 February 2024 (UTC)

UK Application to Wikipedia

There are references online to the possible application of age verification to Wikipedia. Should this be discussed in this topic? I am sure there are many (including me) who are concerned about this 'mission creep'. Old Aylesburian (talk) 08:34, 23 August 2025 (UTC)

Any discussion of this would be speculative at the moment. The article on the Online Safety Act 2023 more than suitably covers it. I'd also suggest that we give undue weight to discussions of Wikipedia compared to other sites. (As discussed in the article about the OSA, a number of prominent web services such as Bluesky have already implemented age verification to comply with the OSA, so it'd probably be better to discuss actual concrete OSA implementations rather than currently speculative implementations.) —Tom Morris (talk) 09:29, 25 August 2025 (UTC)

Suspicious advert by Borderage service

I just removed the section "By analysing hand movements" due to suspicion of being an advert by the Borderage service itself. The wording feels ad-like, and the original revision that added it was incorrectly formatted and from a direct IP. Said IP also gives a lookup result of Montpellier, France, the same as where the company is located.

(I meant to write this in the edit message but accidentally pressed submit too soon) PJB3005 (talk) 18:04, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

I don't like this article's layout much; parental controls is in the "methods" section even though parental controls don't verify age. I do believe the section offers an interesting method of age verification, though. The section wasn't well-written right now, but it could be shortened down and removed of bias or even mention of BorderAge.
What do you think about something like "Methods have been created that use AI models to verify age by analyzing hand movements"? There seems to be enough sources, although I am doubtful about the accuracy of the tool, especially to differentiate between 17 and 18 year-olds. — Awesomecat / / / 00:35, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Protection from predators

I think one of the main driving factors is protecting minors from predators they might meet online. See Online Safety Act 2023 for example. Imakesapage (talk) 01:20, 2 April 2026 (UTC)

Age verification systemAge verificationAge verification – Wider topic, not just how, but why and where. Most of the page seems to be about that. Imakesapage (talk) 01:49, 2 April 2026 (UTC)  Relisting. BilledMammal (talk) 01:57, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

Meh I agree that this article—currently only covering the implementations, as implied by "systems"—should also cover the concept and debates about it, but it currently does not cover the concept and debates about it. Aaron Liu (talk) 02:13, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

  • Oppose. Age verification systems seems clearer that it is talking about set up or design of technical & social systems of control of access. "Age verification" by itself is too open ended. I'd expect "age verification" to include methods of dating of artifacts, trees or rocks. Walrasiad (talk) 15:40, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
It's worth noting that Age verification currently redirects to this page. Doing a quick search online, you can see that "age verification" is most commonly used for this exact purpose. EvanTech10 (talk) 17:08, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
