Anime is not a word borrowed from English

It's a word borrowed from France. Dessins Anime.

This article could use a more scholarly tone and could learn a lot from the Japanese wiki page on Japanese Anime. 2603:8000:5000:9B8B:E2DD:AD27:303:F35C (talk) 18:53, 11 September 2025 (UTC)

Yes it isn't a word from English but I'm pretty sure that the word "Anime"comes from a Japanese word that I forgot the name:3 Nickoleky monkey (talk) 16:05, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

Anime is simply Japanese animation

The western obsession with anime as an art form, the audience's for anime are often assumed to be much older in the west because the Japanese don't share their Christian morality.

It's ok to distinguish Japanese animation from western, but the idea that it is its own art form and seperate from the world of animation is simply older fans in the west feeling ashamed that they like something that is primarily for children. In the history section, anime was not developed as an alternative to live action anymore than wester animation was.

Also the trailer that is shown at the beginning of the article, that is a late night anime and typical of the type of anime westerners like, but a more mainstream show should have been shown.

Anime based on comics carry the big eyes style, and they are aimed at young audiences even when they feature things that would be inappropriate in the west

"Adult" anime is usually more avant garde, like with the works of Satoshi Kon. Or in the case of pronographic anime with the big eyes style..those usually cater to people with a ferish for childish things as those anime always feature underage characters

The sources for this article are overwhelminy western. Would it not kill to have a native Japanese speaker contribute or to include scholarly works on Japanese animation from Japan as citations? Even where the citations appear to be Japanese, the authors take liberty with the translation.

The Japanese equivalent article, is far more superior and objective. 2603:8000:5000:9B8B:E2DD:AD27:303:F35C (talk) 19:05, 11 September 2025 (UTC)

About the Trailer Used in the Lead Section

Is there any particular reason why is the trailer of "Heroines Run The Show" used as the lead-section example of this "Anime" article? I think "Shirobako" is more representative as it is the Anime about Anime-making industry itself. ~2025-37558-54 (talk) 13:48, 2 December 2025 (UTC)

The trailer is CC-BY so that's probably why. I don't think it's representative of the whole topic altogether to be honest, so you could probably make a case to at least move it further down. Opecuted (talk) 12:16, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
