According to Ethnologue this article is wrong in several ways. First this is a macro language consisting of three languages. It is therefore wrong to call the three "dialects". GerardM 19:14, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- No, it's not. The line between a language and a dialect is blurry, and when there's a debate, the Ethnologue almost always comes down on the side of considering them languages instead of dialects. In fact, that's what a macrolanguage means, that the Library of Congress, in making ISO 639-2, decided to call it a language, but we think it's several.--Prosfilaes (talk) 00:50, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Map
The map which shows the Iranic languages in Middle East is not accurate. It seems somebody used the paint program to change some areas and fill uninhabited desert as a certain language territory while at the same time taking a good chunk of another language territory out as uninhabited desert. - Baluchistan entry in Encyclopaedia Iranica
Was added by a Columbia University IP along with many other links to the site. I have moved it hear in keeping with our external links guidelines so unconnected editors can evaluate its appropriateness. Many of the website's entries are short and may not contain much more than the articles they have been added to. However, this might be a good source even if editors do not consider it an appropriate external link. -- SiobhanHansa 02:01, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Encyclopedia Iranica is produced by Columbia University and like Encyclopedia Britannica is a scholarly source. It should not be removed from the articles as they are pertinent sources of reference.--Zereshk 13:04, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
NEW EDIT SUGGESTION: Why is it not mentioned that Balochi is spoken in significant numbers in the Arabian Peninsula? Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, as well as other Gulf states have huge numbers of Baloch. They are known in the Gulf as the Baloosh. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.229.148.9 (talk) 09:54, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Northwestern Iranian?
How can a language spoken in southeastern Iran be classified as northwestern Iranian? --Vitzque (talk) 20:20, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- I would have asked the same :D It's a strange example of a „southeastern northwestern (up-down)“ thing... which proves that even linguists struggle with naming stuff. The only sensible point, which I find, in the classification of Balochian as Northwestern is that it is not Eastern (i.e. Pashto, Avestan, Saka, etc). Probably the reason may be that it is more related to the Caspian and Kurdish tongues than to the Persian ones (which are classified as Southwestern), but this can be confirmed only by a specialist!
- PS By the way, the situation is similar with the North-„Eastern“ Ossetian and the "South-Western" Tajik. 82.46.239.160 (talk) 11:05, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Local hypothesis
Is there no hypothesis that Balochi is a local language? That this place was included in the original North-West-Iranian zone, with it being a rather large zone? --95.24.66.215 (talk) 09:54, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Balochi language
Isn't Balochi language part of the Eastern Iranian languages? Everywhere I've read on this page, it's classified as a Northwestern Iranian language. I believe this classification is incorrect. Explain please. Elite Ali (talk) 18:03, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- The source for this classification is at the end of the lede section. Multiple other sources cited in Iranian languages say the same. –Austronesier (talk) 20:05, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

Hello, please add Balochi literature in the article as it's related to balochi language. I didn't find right place throughout the article. I would add see also and links to tangentially related this article. Balash-Vologases (talk) 18:33, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
