Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just modified one external link on Basra Federal Region. Please take a moment to review my edit. If you have any questions, or need the bot to ignore the links, or the page altogether, please visit this simple FaQ for additional information. I made the following changes:
- Added archive https://web.archive.org/web/20150103143120/http://www.rasanews.ir/en/NSite/FullStory/News/?Id=1882 to http://www.rasanews.ir/en/NSite/FullStory/News/?Id=1882

Requested move 30 December 2025
- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: not moved. While there was support, the support arguments (and the nomination) were not at all supported by Wikipedia policies, the opposing argument, however, made a strong case with an actual connection to the Wikipedia policies and showed why this move would go against the standards. For that reason, not moved. (closed by non-admin page mover) – LuniZunie(talk) 12:53, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
Basra Federal Region → Basra Region – The Kurdistan Region is called the Kurdistan Region and the Sunni Region is called the Sunni Region, so I think the Basra Region should be called the Basra Region for consistency reason. - Doing this on behalf of @GuesanLoyalist per the RMTR request. HurricaneZetaC 00:54, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose based on the fact that a majority of the sourcing uses the wording "federal region" and it seems to be a major part of the coverage on it. The other examples don't have that type of usage of the wording. Basra Region already redirects to Basra and there's no need to make the title of this article more ambiguous when it isn't the WP:COMMONNAME. HurricaneZetaC 00:57, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- Search engine hits for "Basra Region" also result in all mentions to the city, and some mentioning this proposal outright use Basra Federal Region. This is recent and uses Basra Region, and I would support moving if it actually becomes a region similar to Kurdistan Region since it'd be named in the same way and get coverage under that name. But as of now it's probably too soon as it's just a proposal and most coverage is under the federal region name. HurricaneZetaC 01:02, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- Support the name in Arabic: اقليم البصرة, translates to Basra Region. Montblamc1 (talk) 06:32, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Withdrawn. On request of HurricaneZeta and LuniZunie's behalf (non-admin closure) GuesanLoyalist (talk) 20:05, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
Basra Federal Region → Basra Region – Consistency with articles like the Kurdistan Region or the Sunni Region. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Basra_Federal_Region#Requested_move_30_December_2025 and https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=1330195953#9AM if you wish. - Also do note that I did previously suggest doing this, but someone closed it despite a clear majority. GuesanLoyalist (talk) 00:08, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose per my previous rationale, and consensus is WP:NOTAVOTE. @GuesanLoyalist if you want to contest the close you should go to the closer's talk page, and then WP:MRV. HurricaneZetaC 01:14, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- After I did my resolution with Lumi, what should I do with this thread then? Delete it? GuesanLoyalist (talk) 02:07, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- You shouldn't blank it but you can close it as withdrawn HurricaneZetaC 02:09, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- Where's that button exactly? (Please don't do it for me this time, I want to do it for myself so that I can be more independent and less reliant on other editors) GuesanLoyalist (talk) 02:25, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- @GuesanLoyalist There's a few scripts but I use User:TarnishedPath/MovePlus, hit "Close" at the top after installing -> Custom -> Withdrawn and it does it automatically. Also, we could use some more closers at RM and you can close other RMs with it HurricaneZetaC 02:28, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks! Will do that after I talk with the user in particular! GuesanLoyalist (talk) 02:33, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- @HurricaneZeta I don't think that I succeeded in doing so to try contesting the result? I don't know if I actually succeeded in convincing them, but you can check for yourself if you wish. GuesanLoyalist (talk) 07:15, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
