Talk:Book of Shadows

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Origin of the term

Some evidence that the term 'book of shadows' was used in an account of Anne Bodenham's witchcraft trial at Salisbury in 1653: "According to legend, after the execution her ‘book of shadows’ was burnt, signifying not merely the intrinsic wickedness of such a text but the waywardness of its owner." https://scispace.com/pdf/witchcraft-politics-and-memory-in-seventeenth-century-1r5ct761fi.pdf ps. The source cited in that link refers to Tales of Witches and Sorcery, which uses the term without itself citing an historical source. Shtove (talk) 09:40, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
