Camping equipment

The section Camping equipment (as it reads now), is written too much like a guide on how to camp. Wikipedia is not a guide. Wikibooks is a more suitable place to write on what one "must" possess. This section contains many uncited opinions such as "Any camper, and not only the survival ones, need waterproof matches..." Further, this article is about camping in general and thus all it's forms, but the section implies inaccurate assertions about the needs of teardrop trailer campers, hammock campers and other forms. As I do not see a way to revise this section in a way that will not gather original thought, I am inclined to delete it and expanded the of common equipment. Do any other editors here see an alternative solution?

Merger proposal

To not merge as proposed, given no support; and no consensus for alternative proposals, with stale discussion. Klbrain (talk) 21:33, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

I propose merging Wild camping and Dispersed camping into Camping#Types. I believe that the content in both articles can easily be explained in the context of camping types, and a merger would not cause any article-size or weighting problems in camping. It will also remove two stubs that are poorly linked with more a substantive article. Wild camping was integrated with camping until this edit by User:Dr-john on 13 January 2023 removed a valid redirect and created new content. Rangasyd (talk) 13:12, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

The initial article on wild camping is fairly short, but there is a lot that could be covered here in terms of differing access issues in different parts of the world. The distinction between this and regular camping will be more important to different users in different parts of the world. Whole books have been devoted to the topic - e.g. Stephen Neale's "Wild Camping". I think there is enough substance here for a standalone article, and there are precedents in the other language articles which already exist (I've linked the French, Dutch, German and Swedish articles from here). Dr-john (talk) 13:29, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
I would agree with merging Dispersed camping into Wild camping however, as the former term is only used in US English, whereas "wild camping" (or a direct translation thereof) seems to be used in a number of different locales (see other language versions of the wild camping article for examples). Dr-john (talk) 13:40, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
I am not certain that Dispersed camping and Wild camping are the same, and I probably disagree with merging as proposed.
As I study the Kaibab, I am introduced to the U.S. Forest Service "dispersed camping". All dispersed camping is in fact in designated areas, which are marked roadsides specifically accessible by highway vehicles, at least in the Kaibab. As such, it seems to me that there is more in common with Car camping than with Wild camping, because car camping can be performed at any of the designated dispersed camping sites in the Kaibab.
I would disagree with the distinction that dispersed camping is not at designated camp sites, since I see designated dispersed camping sites on maps. It seems to me that a "dispersed campsite" is just a USFS-designated roadsides where there is no firepit, table, water hydrant, or toilet.
"Some areas allow [dispersed camping in designated sites only.]"

Additional content/reference

Perhaps this article could be edited to include mention of discuss different tents and tent setups for car camping. A link to the Springbar article might make a good addition to this page — either in the article itself (in the Recent Trends section) or in "See also." Note: user Xlea Nollmav (talk) is being paid to promote Springbar. Murray Langton (talk) 15:49, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
That is actually no longer the case. This is simply in an effort to help the brand address the orphan link issue that you and I previously discussed. As you suggested, I am adding a note on related talk pages (without directly adding links myself) to see if others believe adding a note/link to Springbar would be relevant/helpful. If this is not the way to go about this, please let me know. I appreciate any guidance. Xlea Nollmav (talk) 16:17, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
