Charaka knew the fundamentals of genetics.^[1] For instance, he knew the factors determining the sex of a child. Charaka or any of the Ancient Indians never had known about Ovum. Almost all scriptures treated Semen as a seed (‘Beeja’). They never realised that it wasn’t the semen but the Sperm cells that did the job ChandlerMinh (talk) 05:31, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

i have removed the statement that Charaka samahita talks about germs before modern science and the source "About The Date Of Caraka, The Famous Ancient Physician" http://www.infinityfoundation.com/mandala/t_es/t_es_agraw_caraka_frameset.html Isn't even reliable and doesn't even qualify for Wikipedia reliable source as it talks about fringe theory that Charaka samhita talks about germs and cells before modern science. Since Charak is an Indian name, the addition of "a" at the end does not appear alright. It is just like one tends to add an "a" after Keral [Name of a Southern Indian state]. When such words are pronounced with an "a", the stress on the last syllable is as we pronounce, say, Indiana [a US state]. Today we see many people wrongly pronouncing Keral as one does Indiana. Unless there are specific reasons to do otherwise, Wikipedia uses the form of a name which is most commonly used and understood in English; in this case that means "Charaka". Whether you or I or anyone else thinks it would be better if English used a different form is irrelevant: what actually is most commonly used is the criterion. JBW (talk) 01:13, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
