Planning to pick this up within the next few days, but for now I'm not really happy with any of the hooks. Most of them require some Hong Kong-specific knowledge or are otherwise not interesting to broad international audiences. I guess the closest would be ALT6, but it seems marginal at best. Do you have any other suggestions? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:54, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: I personally prefer ALT0 and ALT1, and I do not see why the hooks (aside from ALT4) require any "
Hong Kong-specific knowledge
". For instance, the first hook is about a very commercially successful film changing course from having a sequel to a prequel, and the second is about a non‑English‑speaking actor learning the language to film scenes with a British actor (Bonneville is not even from Hong Kong and I think he has a certain degree of international fame). I have already come up with 7 hooks and feel I have tried my best. Do you have any suggestions that might better meet your expectation of appealing to "broad international audiences
"? Otherwise, I would suggest you reconsider proceeding with ALT0, ALT1, or ALT3. ALT6 seems a bit too generic to me, since there are many back-to-back productions out there, that is why I placed it last in the first place. —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 11:21, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- It's more that the first two hooks seem to be reliant on knowing who these people are or the context behind them, hence "Hong Kong-specific knowledge". I think there is still potential in ALT0's hook fact, but it needs to be simplified (something like "that Cold War 1994, a prequel, was originally planned as a sequel") or something like that, and probably without mentioning specific names. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 11:37, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Yes, I am totally fine with dropping Bill Kong and Cold War 2's names and going with something like ALT7: "... that Cold War 1994, a prequel, was originally planned as a sequel?" Or we could still retain and emphasize that it was the highest-grossing film and phrase it as ALT8: "... that the once highest-grossing domestic film in Hong Kong was originally planned to have a sequel rather than a prequel?" Do you think either one will work? —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 11:53, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- Either could work, but I have a slight preference for the former as it is shorter and more direct to the point. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 02:58, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: I am okay to proceed with ALT7. —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 13:24, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

Article is new enough, long enough, adequately sourced, and free from close paraphrasing. A QPQ has been done. ALT7 is probably the best option here, with ALT8 as a backup (though I prefer ALT7 as it is shorter and direct to the point). The only concern I have is that, in the article body, the body does not directly use the word "prequel" and instead says that the film takes place pre-Handover. This makes the film being a prequel implicitly stated rather than directly stated, which may not satisfy the ERRORS or WT:DYK police. I would suggest a reword to make the prequel aspect more explicit in the text. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 12:23, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Thanks for reviewing the article! No problem, since the World Journal source repeatedly used the word "prequel" throughout the article, I have expanded the current sentence to include the word "prequel". The revised text is supported by the paragraph above the current quote. Here is the full translation: (Director Longman Leung also explained the reason for filming two Cold War prequels: "When Boss Kong (Edko Films' boss Bill Kong) asked me what I would do if we revive the Cold War series and make a prequel, I told Boss Kong that I had already foreshadowed the prequel when conceptualizing the first film. I remember in the first film, when the senior investigation officer of the ICAC questions the then Deputy Commissioner of Police M.B. Lee (played by Tony Leung Ka-fai), he already revealed that back in 1995, the then head of Organized Crime and Triad Bureau M.B. Lee used a perfect undercover plan to successfully dissolve a triad gang. That was the starting point for us to begin the Cold War prequels.") —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 13:44, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5: Is there anything else I need to do to proceed with this nomination? —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 16:06, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
Nope, this should be good to go. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 03:01, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
