Data governance vs. document control
Data ownership and accountability
Data Ownership and accountability (specifically at the exec level) needs to be added - as you can't govern what you don't own. Adrian Kearns (talk) 00:39, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
Why governance?
Why is this in a series on governance? Other than having the term in the title, it doesn't seem to be conceptually linked to the other pages in the series. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.24.203.41 (talk) 00:59, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Split proposal
I think that the distinction between a 'macro' definition of Data Governance and 'micro' definition would best be served by a content split and disambiguation, the two definitions are conceptually quite different. As a Data Management Professional who also has worked in public statistics, I would like to propose splitting the article into; Data Governance (Data Management) and Data Governance (Statistics).Duncnbiscuit (talk) 01:20, 28 October 2023 (UTC)
- As I understand it, 'Data Governance' are the concepts related to the overall compliance framework: roles and responsibilities, policies, legislation, principles etc. `Data Management` is the practical act of administration and best practices required to comply with that governance framework. That differentiation holds true whether the context is international, national, or within an individual organisation. I don't see the need for the split at present, could you point me in the direction of some 'Statistics' focused Data governance references? SallyRenee (talk) 01:06, 29 October 2025 (UTC)
- Clerical note: I am not taking a position on the split discussion itself, but if consensus does reflect a decision in favor of splitting, the article titles should be Data governance (data management) and Data governance (statistics). See WP:LOWERCASE. I have edited the proposal accordingly. Again, this change should not be construed as an argument supporting, nor opposing, any particular split/restructuring/etc.
