Hello, could you please take a look at my sandbox edits. Two main changes: one to the history of the founders and one to EMV Chip Specifications, which is a reworked section. Link is below.

The EMV abbreviation originally combined the first letter from the three companies that created the standard, Europay, Mastercard, and Visa.[1] EMVCo was founded in 1999 to manage the specification,[2] with JCB joining in 2004 and American Express joining in February 2009,[2]China UnionPay in May 2013, and Discover in September 2013.[2] EMVCo's close collaboration with the payments community – merchants, issuers, acquirers, payment networks, financial institutions, manufacturers, technology providers and testing laboratories – is crucial in adapting and advancing the EMV Specifications.[3] All EMV Specifications are subject to public consultation prior to publication and available for use by any organisation royalty-free. [4]
2. Rename "Control of the EMV standard" section to "EMV Chip Specification".

In 1994, Europay, MasterCard, and Visa began developing a global chip specification for payment systems.[1] The specification was published two years later, in 1996.[1][5] In 1999, a privately owned corporation, EMVCo LLC, was created to manage the specification.[1][33] The Members of EMVCo are American Express, Discover Financial, JCB International, Mastercard, China UnionPay, and Visa Inc..[6] Each of these organizations owns an equal share of EMVCo and has representatives in the EMVCo organization and EMVCo working groups.[6]
The EMVCo Associates Programme (EAP) was established in 2010 to facilitate engagement and enable the broader payments community to play an active role in EMVCo’s strategic and technical direction.[7][8] Since the EAP’s establishment there have been regular enhancements to the programme in order to meet changing industry requirements. These enhancements include formalising the role of the EAP in the development of EMV® Specifications across all technologies, expanding the application of public consultation to this process, and provision for the EMVCo Board of Advisors to vote to approve EMV Specifications for official publication.[9]
EMV Compliance testing has three levels: EMV Level 1, which covers physical, electrical, and transport-level interfaces;[10] EMV Level 2, which covers payment application selection and credit financial transaction processing;[10][11][12] and EMVCo Level 3, which covers the integration of an EMV payment or cash dispensing terminal with any merchant or bank system.[13] Recognition of compliance with the EMV standard (i.e., device certification) is issued by EMVCo following submission of results of testing performed by an accredited testing house.

For reference, the section currently reads as follows:

2. Request to rename "Control of the EMV standard" section headline to "EMV Chip Specification”. This section refers explicitly to the Chip specification – it does not necessarily apply to other EMV specifications such as for online payments or QR Code payments etc. The section also requires work (references), so I will be looking to add suitable references in future. Not done for now: Thanks for reworking the above edit, and sorry it has taken so long for someone to get to you. If you are still interested, the proposed text looks mostly good, but there are a few things to keep in mind. Make sure the citations are using the proper template, e.g., {{cite journal}}, {{cite news}}, etc. (those two are available in the editor toolbar). As for the EMV chip specification standard header change, that has been Done. WhinyTheYounger (WtY)(talk, contribs) 21:07, 11 April 2022 (UTC)

Superfluous text
This entire page reads like a very long press release from EMV, rather than a Wikipedia article about EMV.
The history of mechanical card terminals, magnetic strips, Card Not Present transactions, etc don't strike me as being relevant to EMV. If this information is salient, it should probably live elsewhere (e.g. a history of payment cards page).
The phrase "EMV stands for Europay, ..." is repeated three times throughout the text - twice with links, once without. Nimlhûg (talk) 08:38, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
