Did you know nomination
- ... that a photo of a girl at a former equestrian facility and a monument blown up by the IRA served as the basis for a statue in Ballymun (pictured)?
- Reviewed: Template:Did you know nominations/Race Across the World series 6, Template:Did you know nominations/Chaldean National Congress, Template:Did you know nominations/Twenty Twenty Six
- Comment: it'd be cool if this was ran on the same day as my Ballymun Shopping Centre and Ballymun Concrete News DYK noms. If I need to do more than 1 qpq tell me, the template said only 1 was required

- the template after nominating says I need 2 more so I'll go do 2 more Finnfrog99 (talk) 19:51, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

- All three QPQs are done, though you ought to return to Chaldean National Congress. Kill Equestrian Centre is long and new enough and Earwig has no complaints. Lots of opportunities for an WP:DYKAPRIL hook, but I'll let you propose that. I'll finish reviewing the other two when I'm not nodding off, but I did just add a {{cn}} to Gough Monument.--Launchballer 03:00, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

The other two are long and new enough and Earwig has no complaints with either of them. Hook checks out. (For the record, I was thinking of DYKAPRIL hooks like "that Ukrainian refugees in Ireland were nearly sent to a kill facility in 2022" or "that a kill facility was used as a venue for the 2003 Special Olympics".) ALT0 is approved.--Launchballer 12:20, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- Launchballer for DYKAPRIL I could do

ALT1 ... that in 2003, the Special Olympics went to kill equestrian?
- or
ALT2 ... that in 2003, the Special Olympics went to a kill facility?
- and for the other 2,
ALT1 ... that a monument blown up by the IRA served as the basis for a statue in Ballymun (pictured)?

ALT2 ... that a monument blown up by the IRA (pictured) served as the basis for a statue in Ballymun ?
- If you approve these ALTs, I'll leave it up to the promoter to decide
- I'll uncapatalize it then Finnfrog99 (talk) 14:09, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

Looks interesting! I will review this within a week or two. ❧ LunaEatsTuna (talk), proudly editing since 2018 (and just editing since 2017) – posted at 22:43, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- Copyvio check
No concerns; the quotation near the end is out of copyright and in any case warranted.
- Prose
- You could add quite a bit more to the lead, definitely a short separate paragraph summarising the statue's history, and I think a very brief description of the design can perhaps be fitted into the first paragraph presently there.
- “Gough c. 1868 or 1871” – I would say “Gough in c. 1868 or 1871”.
- I would do “Foley sketched the design but died in 1874, having made a small model of it.”
- Wikilink Dublin.
- “protect it from the IRA (Irish Republican Army)” > change to “protect it from the Irish Republican Army (IRA)” for formatting consistency.
- In § Design and symbolism, add the source also at the end of the first sentence to indicate to the reader where those two quotations are from.
- Wikilink Peninsular War.
- Spotchecks
Passes. I checked ref 1, which is cited numerous times, as well as refs 3, 12 and 13.
Thanks for the fun article and also goodluck on the DYK!! ❧ LunaEatsTuna (talk), proudly editing since 2018 (and just editing since 2017) – posted at 01:31, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- Oh, forgot to say: please ping me once you are finished so that I can know when to take another look. Also, feel free to ask any questions or refute any of my proposed changes. ❧ LunaEatsTuna (talk), proudly editing since 2018 (and just editing since 2017) – posted at 02:54, 12 April 2026 (UTC)

- changed the lead to this;
- The Gough Monument is an equestrian statue of Hugh Gough, 1st Viscount Gough in the grounds of Chillingham Castle in Chillingham, Northumberland, United Kingdom. John Henry Foley was commissioned to a statue of Gough but died before its completion, leaving his pupil Thomas Brock to finish it. The statue was previously located in Phoenix Park in Dublin but after several attacks to the statue and an explosion from the Irish Republican Army (IRA), it was moved to the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. It was later purchased by Rupert Guinness, 2nd Earl of Iveagh and moved to its current location in Chillingham Castle, where it was restored.
- The statue depicts Gough on a horse wearing an honorary colonel of the Royal Horse Guards, with the Order of St Patrick, the Bath and the Star of India on it. The statue is on a stone pedestal with an inscription about Gough's military life.
- (Is "with an inscription about Gough's military life" original research? I just described what I read in the inscription since it is on the article, if you want me to remove it I will)
- “Gough c. 1868 or 1871” – I would say “Gough in c. 1868 or 1871”.
- changed
- I would do “Foley sketched the design but died in 1874, having made a small model of it.”
- changed to this;
- Foley sketched the design but died in 1874, only having made a small model of it.
- Wikilink Dublin.
- done
- “protect it from the IRA (Irish Republican Army)” > change to “protect it from the Irish Republican Army (IRA)” for formatting consistency.
- moved to lead, so this is just IRA now
- In § Design and symbolism, add the source also at the end of the first sentence to indicate to the reader where those two quotations are from.
- added
- Wikilink Peninsular War.
- done, should I also link China and India?
- No need to link countries, since most people should know what they are!
- LunaEatsTuna
- thanks for the quick review! Finnfrog99 (talk) 16:59, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
