parts of a pistol?

I think it would be nice if a gun expert could come up with a diagram of a pistol pointing out it's different parts. Or at least add an external link to where we could find one. ARBlackwood OK, here you go. All firearms have three parts; lock , stock, and barrel.

Why are the information on automatic pistols cluttering up the semi-section?

There is only a small footnote on semi-automatic handguns in it's own section! Automatics and machinepistoles should get their own.

Caplocks section

The caplocks section has nothing to do with handguns and seems like a copy-paste job from the Percussion Cap article. I unfortunately don't know much about old guns, but it would be nice if someone who does would make that section a bit more relevant. Metz77 (talk) 04:18, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

It's not just the caplock section, it's also everything from the hand cannon section except the paragraph on the se-chongtong and everything in matchlocks. The useful bits are just the se-chongtong and the flintlock section. David Bofinger (talk) 06:55, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

Why does this article exist?

Seriously, why is there a handgun article and a pistol article? Proposing merger. Ironmatic1 (talk) 04:53, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

Because they're not the same thing. A pistol is a type of handgun. Not all handguns are pistols, notably revolvers. This is well explained in the lede of both articles. A merge would be unhelpful and unconstructive. SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 00:33, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and removed the merge templates, as there's been no substantive reasoning provided for the merge, nor even a single support, in nearly two months. SWATJester Shoot Blues, Tell VileRat! 00:53, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
