There's a new article on Goa expedition to Lourenço Marques which overlaps almost entirely with the last paragraph of Austrian colonization, 1770s and the first paragraph of the next section, Reassertion of Portuguese control, 1780s–1810s. It does add a reference or two, but little new information. Hence, to reduce duplication, I suggest merging it to here. Klbrain (talk) 15:35, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose – Lobato (2000) covers this expedition in depth, and not merely as part of the history of Maputo. Pages 300–326 explain the planning, execution, negotiations with the local African rulers, treatment of foreign shipping, and the capture of the Austrian garrisons. From p. 326 onward, Lobato analyzes the expedition back to Goa, the consequences and the immediate Austrian reactions, with coverage extending to p. 355.
- I believe this topic can go well beyond a city history. In History of Maputo the expedition is mainly relevant as background to the founding of Lourenço Marques, whereas here it is the subject itself. Kolno (talk) 16:16, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
