The source that you provided did not mention that Iran became a hereditary dictatorship, although that may be true. As he has only been recently appointed, sources will probably not report on this until far into the future. It really isn't the news's job to call something a hereditary dictatorship and so we will be stuck waiting for academic sources. Iran should be classified as a hereditary dictatorship like Ba'athist Syria. The Iranian leadership has been described as a hereditary dictatorship by multiple international news sources. Policy institutes, like the Stimson Center, have also outlined the case of "hereditary dictatorship" in Iran since at least 2024, referring directly to the possibility of Mojtaba Khamenei succeeding his father, Ali Khamenei. Of the sources you cite, the Telegraph is paywalled, so I can't comment. Time most definitely doesn't describe Iran as a hereditary dictatorship in that article. You are citing an article from March 4 speculating on who the next Supreme Leader will be. It isn't asserting that Iran was a hereditary dictatorship at that time, and neither is it making any definitive statement about what it will be in the future. We don't have any RS calling it a "hereditary dictatorship" yet, but the rival PMOoI via its NCRI government has called Mojtaba's succession as a "hereditary monarchy". As for now, since the PMOoI isn't considered reliable nor not reliable, I don't think it's feasible yet to list Iran as a hereditary dictatorship; even though IMO I still think it is one. ^NeoSyria\Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 17:51, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
