Discussion on remaining

I propose renaming the following pages:

And other similar pages that was never controlled by Islamic State.

Reason: These are self-proclaimed branches of IS that did not exercise provincial governance. Reliable sources (BBC, Reuters, etc.) generally refer to them as affiliates or branches, not as formal provinces. The current names overstate their legitimacy and creates confusion.

It can be discussed what should we use instead of province (branch, in, activities etc.) A$ianeditorz (talk) 09:57, 7 October 2025 (UTC)

Oppose - The reason they are called "provinces" is because the Islamic State calls them "Wilayah" (province in english) JaxsonR (talk) 22:06, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
They call that right? But do they rule? And waliyah is a governing state or body but they don't govern that territories nor it's a WP: COMMONNAME. That is just self proclaimed A$ianeditorz (talk) 07:13, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
They have or had a functioning structure in most of these Provinces making it somewhat of a government despite not controlling territory. JaxsonR (talk) 07:18, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
What? In Pakistan? In Bangladesh?!
Bro they never go beyond middle east in terms of governing.
And that way according to you if any org or group calling itself a country that makes them country right? And claiming USA and having some ppl in USA of their own will make USA their province right? Those are factions or branches. A$ianeditorz (talk) 07:29, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
Actually that is not true, in ISWAP territory they have a very effective government and still controll territory, same can be said for the Sahel branch, if you want to see more please see the specific territorial claims in the Territory of the Islamic State page JaxsonR (talk) 07:34, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
Those are rebel militant faction in pockets of isis who have a very little control there. But what about Pakistan, Bengal, east Asia, Indonesia, hind? A$ianeditorz (talk) 07:50, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
they claim responsibilty for attacks under there province name, that is the reason. Also the East Asia faction siezed a large city in 2017 JaxsonR (talk) 07:57, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
Bro learn what is a province they took those for a short term that doesn't make them fully functional state or provinces. Using terms like "province" (which ISIS itself uses) grants them a degree of legitimacy. A$ianeditorz (talk) 08:17, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
@Asianeditorz They use the name, and Wikipedia must use the name they give them. I understand it may be confusing but it must be like this. JaxsonR (talk) 08:33, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
It should be according to what mostly used because Turkey's name is Türkiye from 2022 but Wikipedia still use turkey because of WP:COMMONNAME. Even the sources given on those pages doesn't call it Province. A$ianeditorz (talk) 08:50, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
  • Support. it really creates confusion.
Crackithm (talk) 09:16, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
Oppose to a rename, because both media and academic researchers dub them "provinces"; only some governments (such as Nigeria's) tend to sometimes reject the term. Wikipedians don't decide names, the sources do. And the sources are quite clear in this regard. Applodion (talk) 23:15, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
  • Oppose silly made-up nicknames that nobody uses.  Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-37379-4 (talk) 03:36, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

Add the "A part of a series on terrorism" template

The same one that's on the proud boys article. Not sure how this was missed. ReiPeixe (talk) 10:31, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

Done You are quite right! Lova Falk (talk) 11:07, 1 February 2026 (UTC)

In the section "The group has perpetrated terrorist massacres in territories outside of its control, such as the November 2015 Paris attacks, the 2024 Kerman bombings in Iran, the 2024 Crocus City Hall attack in Russia, the Hanukkah massacre of Jews on Bondi beach in Australia and the knifing of Jews outside a British synagogue on Yom Kippur" on the introductory page, "the Hanukkah massacre of Jews on Bondi beach in Australia and the knifing of Jews outside a British synagogue on Yom Kippur" should be changed to "the 2025 Bondi Beach shooting and the 2025 Manchester synagogue attack", assuming that these two are the attacks being referred to here.  Done Thank you! Lova Falk (talk) 10:44, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

This page should be taken down!

I think that this should be taken, this should not be allowed here, why are people even creating this, and also please remove the photos of the isis flag, ~2026-10384-70 (talk) 13:36, 16 February 2026 (UTC)
