Ring is a FOSS project for VOIP. It is notable for its long history (it has changed name from SLPhone), also it is the second best known project after Linphone, that at last entered Android platform. And it is also notable as GPL-3 licenced software. Toneymoon (talk) 09:42, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

I second that. Since the faltering of the similar Tox project, and Ring becoming a GNU Project, there has been a lot of interest in the software freedom activists, and some interest from the tech press. Some more sources:

Long Bullet List

The long list of bullet points towards the end of the page might be better converted into a series of paragraphs explaining the most significant features. Danylstrype (talk) 05:09, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Infobox doesn't display latest release.

When displayed on my PC (Intel 64, Debian 12.7) the infobox doesn't display the latest release info. When I look at the page source, the "latest release version =" parameter is there & I can't see what's wrong with it that prevents it working. I've checked the /doc pages for both Infobox software and Multiple releases templates without luck. Please help. Kiore (talk) 23:26, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

Source issues

Regarding the tags, most of the sources are either WP:PRIMARY documents, routine listings in unreliable sources, or both. Wikipedia articles should mainly summarize WP:IS / WP:RS. Primary sources can be used for uncontroversially important details. Typical examples include where and when a company was incorporated, or when a company changed its name, or for something like this, simple details about version numbers. I had a hack at it. Also, it turns out to be cryptocurrency - David Gerard (talk) 09:00, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
This in inaccurate. GNU Jami uses a blockchain as a way to match unique usernames to Jami app addresses, without a central directory server. There is no token trading or any of the other practices associated with cryptocurrency. All cryptocurrencies uses a blockchain, but not all uses of a blockchain are cryptocurrencies. To assume they are is a fallacy of the type 'all trout are fish, therefore all fish are trout'. Danylstrype (talk) 13:48, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
If you are referring to the links I gave above as evidence for notability, none of them WP:PRIMARY, in this case that would only apply to links to the Jami or Savoir-faire Linux websites, or blog pieces or forum comments written by people involved with those. I presume "routine listings" refers to the Free Software Directory Entry. But this reference establishes Jami is a fully Free Code project, and a member of the GNU Project (which has a WP and it undeniably notable); "GNU Jami satisfies a high priority software goal of the Free Software Foundation, responding to the challenges of privacy on the Internet" sounds pretty notable to me. Not just a vanity product of one company, which may be a reasonable reason to delete a software article from WP. I don't think it's fair to describe Linux.com. Phoronix, open-source.com, or linux-magazine.com as "unreliable sources". They may not be mainstream newspapers, but AFAIK they are all edited trade publications, specializing in Free Code software development and GNU/Linux apps. As with the FSD entry, being featured in all these publications shows that this project is taken seriously in a number of parts of the GNU/Linux development, which seems to me to establish notability for a Free Code software project. Answer me this; why is WP made worse as an encyclopedia by having an article about Jami, and how would it be made better by deleting it? Danylstrype (talk) 14:03, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
Notability is not inherited. Listicles are not high quality RSes. What do you consider the three best sources that clearly establish notability for Jami? - David Gerard (talk) 20:34, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
