Writing and MoS

Creating section Kwkintegrator (talk) 01:09, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Lead matches MoS, high quality prose, spelling, grammar, scope. Establishes relevance, compliant to the best of my knowledge to standards for leads for biographies of living persons. Low on citations, but this is style-compliant and all claims seem to be backed by claims elsewhere in document. Kwkintegrator (talk) 01:21, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
ISSUE 3: I'm usually quite fine with passive voice, but looking at this one example "The New York Times reported Kent had obtained access to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's files on the assassination of Charlie Kirk", I was struck a bit by the lack of detail on the "how" of the obtaining happened, and think rewriting in a more active voice or pulling a bit more from the source (which I'm paywalled from accessing), could improve the article. But I see this as optional. Kwkintegrator (talk) 02:28, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
ISSUE 5: If it's agreeable, looking at categories, and Kent should liekly be identified as a Washington Republican only, not also an Oregonian, given it is his main geographical identity relevant to his adulthood. Kwkintegrator (talk) 03:29, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
Fixed. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 03:34, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
Layout seems to be in order. Kwkintegrator (talk) 03:30, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
Satisfied with regards to spelling, grammar and word choice. There are no issues with regard to fiction as it doesn't meet the typical requirements. Lists are not implicated. Kwkintegrator (talk) 03:46, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Factual Accuracy and Verfiability

Creating section Kwkintegrator (talk) 01:15, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

ISSUE 1: "on an 11X Option 40 contract, allowing him to enter the 75th Ranger Regiment." is not supported by Mother Jones article at end of sentence Kwkintegrator (talk) 01:38, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
Fixed. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 02:46, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
Very good reliability overall. Fixed a minor omission myself. Kwkintegrator (talk) 02:42, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
Spot check revealed no further issues beyond the one highlighted. Citations are of the short style and are consistent, with corresponding works cited that look to be of the correct form. Spot check revealed no plagiarism, I am satisfied that references were paraphrased, not copied. Citations are inline. Source quality is high and journalistic, and will be checked against quality required for the biography of a living person later in the article. Primary and tertiary sources are avoided. Kwkintegrator (talk) 03:51, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Coverage Breadth

Creating section Kwkintegrator (talk) 01:15, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

ISSUE 2: Finding that there is a relative lack of coverage in the article about the 2024 congressional campaign. Kwkintegrator (talk) 02:21, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
The coverage is because most of the content about his 2022 campaign concerns his alleged ties to white nationalists. His second campaign was a reprisal; there wasn't much novel about him choosing to run again. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 02:42, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
Figured as much, but was able to find a few things that I might slot in there myself unless you wanted to take a look and do so yourself. Examples 1, 2 and at a lesser quality, 3. Kwkintegrator (talk) 03:00, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
No issues noted in focus, nothing meriting a split, and article size is compact and good. Kwkintegrator (talk) 03:03, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

NPOV

Creating section Kwkintegrator (talk) 01:16, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

No world-ending issues with neutral point-of-view. POV does feel like there is a bias toward what others said of Mr. Kent during the campaigns rather than secondary sources that highlight his own framing of the election, issues, etc. Other than that, feels very clean, fair, and consistent with the sources, which are generally high-quality and don't seem to be slanted against Mr. Kent. Kwkintegrator (talk) 02:48, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Stability

Creating Section Kwkintegrator (talk) 01:16, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Seemingly stable at the moment. No concerns or discussion from me here. Kwkintegrator (talk) 01:18, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Illustration

Creating section Kwkintegrator (talk) 01:16, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Low levels of illustration, but upon a search, found no other reasonable illustration exists for Joe Kent himself at events. Existing photos seem clearly public domain and are well-captioned. Kwkintegrator (talk) 01:28, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

BLP Compliance

Creating section Kwkintegrator (talk) 02:25, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Having reviewed the BLP requirements, I am satisfied that this page is in the spirit of biographies of living persons. The title "far-right" has been a topic of discussion in the talk page, but the multiple sources cited in defence of the word use conform to the expectations required for Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_person tone/balance. Tasks Ahead of Releasing GA Hold

I'm calling it here for the time being on this review, and will return in a day or two to work further on this GA nomination. I'm satisfied this isn't a quick reject, but think there are a few things that should be done ahead of approving this for GA status. Happy to entertain pushback on any of these.

1. Adding some depth on the 2024 campaign, either based on the sources found, or other sources. If it is preferred, it could also be signalled that I should work them in myself.

2. Adding in some of Mr. Kent's own statements or attacks on his opponent in the 2022 campaign could also add to the depth and fullness of the article, and I'd encourage the nominator to consider looking for them, adding them if they think there is notable content, or reporting back that there isn't any notable content worthy of inclusion if applicable.

3. If possible, consider adding more illustration. While Kent has few other photos, photos of his opponent, far-right individuals he has spoken with, or anything related to his time in the 2nd administration may all provide depth to the article with appropriate captioning.

Once these three things are tackled, feel free to ping me by mentioning me by name here. Again, happy to entertain pushback. Quality collective work here, and I think/hope that this will make the GA article cut. I may still pull in a second opinion as this is only my second or third time reviewing an article for GA status, and my first of a living person, but I will leave that until after we resolve these three items. Kwkintegrator (talk) 04:10, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

@ElijahPepe, tagging you here for convenience. Kwkintegrator (talk) 04:10, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
@Kwkintegrator: I added two of the sources you included; I did not include the third, as I was concerned about partisanship. I did look for statements, but I believed that it would be more beneficial to cover a broad outline from sources that directly state his campaign approach, rather than drawing conclusions from his quotes. I also added a photograph of his swearing in. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 15:28, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
